I haven’t written a single word on my current project in months. My head just wasn’t in the right space. Navigating through parenting, a pandemic, a relatively new job, and several competing interests hasn’t left much room for my writing hobby.
About my competing interests–I’ve been improving my chess game and teaching my son how to play, dabbling with doodling and digital art, and I’ve been winning and losing money in the wall street casino (gamestop. diamond hands, smooth brains, etc.). AND (some time between watching YouTube videos of chess streamers, smearing ink across my sketchbook, and researching investment strategies) I have been gaming more. A lot more. Hundreds of hours more.
I’ve played a ton of Hell Divers, Borderlands, Stellaris, and Squadrons with the guys, and it has been awesome for my mind and soul. However, I think the biggest thing that happened during my writing hiatus is reconnecting with my older brother. So far, we’ve sunk hundreds of hours into Satisfactory and now Valheim (I cannot get enough of Valheim). We video chat while we play and just talk about anything. We laugh and build together. We progress our characters together. It has brought me back in time when we gamed together 20+ years ago. I never knew I needed this.
The good news is that I am now in a place where I want to write again. I still have a keen interest to finish G3 and TR, and the important thing is that I get back in the saddle and write!
