I drew this! Well, I found a bunch of the elements, laid them out in Krita, and traced them, but I did it. The creative bug bit me after reading some of my guilty pleasure, LitRPG. Don’t judge me too harshly.
Per wikipedia, LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of RPGs with science-fiction and fantasy novels.
It might be a little bit odd to read character sheets with stats such as strength, agility, and intelligence almost every other chapter, but it seemed to work for me as I read Aleron Kong’s work. I’m a chart and spreadsheet geek, so I enjoyed seeing snapshots of the character growth.
I will say, it’s easier to read the book than to listen to the audiobook. The audiobooks, however, are still great because one of my favorite narrators, Nick Podehl, performs it. My biggest gripe is that the works are too short for me to justify spending Audible credits, but if you’ve got them to spare, give it a shot! Or if you have Kindle Unlimited, they are quick and easy reads.
Writing Glaive 3 was giving me a headache, so I changed gears and started to write something else. I fully intend to finish the Keen Blade Chronicle, but I’m going to write this dungeon crawler first.
Super nerds rejoice! My new story will follow familiar Dungeon & Dragon character archetypes along a journey to climb a tower filled with monsters. You get a little Sword Art Online mixed with the Diablo games.
Now, I didn’t go so far as to include character sheets and charts, but I keep it in mind as I write. Hopefully, I can successfully convey character growth with the prose instead of showing increasing stat points. So far, I like how it’s shaping up.
I added a word count goal to the sidebar, but don’t hold me to it. I don’t actually know how many words this will take to finish, but I have a lot of the scenes planned out (on paper and in my head). Keep your eyes peeled! I’m really excited about this piece.
Thanks for reading!
