March Update: Broken Blade Art, Part Deux

So I wasn’t entirely happy with the first two attempts at the front cover. Finding resources on Fiverr is hit-and-miss (mostly miss). I googled “commissioning digital art” and still came up short.

I know awesome art exists on the internet. Where have I seen it before? After considering the question, it hit me. One of my favorite places to browse art is DeviantArt. After I added that onto the end of my google search, I ended up where I wanted; DeviantArt Commissions.

It still took quite a bit of perusing to find an artist I both liked AND could afford, but I found one. Then I had to trust that the artist would follow through after I sent the money via Paypal (Fiverr has an escrow system). It wasn’t long before I received drafts of the piece, and it was neat watching how everything progressed.

The style is much different than Glaive: Blade of a Flower, but it is high quality and it makes me happy. Troll me all you want, but we are running with this one.

Now, I’ve spent more money on art than I wanted, and I needed to save somewhere. Therefore, I decided that I would create the art for the back cover myself. I know what you are thinking. It is going to be horrible. Well, it didn’t turn out TOO awful. My biggest gripe is that it’s in a different style than the rest, but I’m learning as I go.

Perhaps I’m taking on too many hobbies. I’ve always loved art, and, with practice, I think I can improve my digital painting skills. If I get good enough, perhaps I’ll do both sides of the cover for Book 3 🙂

Now because I’ve been screwing around with Krita and my Huion H610 Pro V2 for the past two weeks, I have not been writing much. It’s still early and I have time to get back on the rails. Wish me luck everyone!

P.S. I DID write a short story about Eleanor Silverglade, Glaive’s late wife. If Eric would stop working so hard at his real job and look it over, it would be ready for publishing on the short story page. If you know him, drop him some not so subtle hints.

P.P.S. The blurb on the back cover is not final, so don’t troll me too hard on it.
