Debut Feelings

I was excited to announce my book on facebook. I was also surprised at the “likes” it generated. As of today, 152 people gave the thumbs up, heart, or surprised emoji. I was thrilled at the amount of love and support I received.

That was my first reaction… my second was thinking “what if all these people actually read it?” and “oh my god! I should have left a warning that it isn’t for everyone.” I can imagine one of my aunts reading the first chapter. Shortly after, the paperback mysteriously ends up in sa basura.

I’ve learned a lot of lessons. I feel book two is going to be much better. I’m going to take my time with it and conscript some beta readers. I was so excited to get Blade of a Flower out there, and I rushed it.

I will also get another set of eyes to proofread. After reading something over and over again, I lose the ability to see the nitty-gritty. Perhaps my editor feels the same way. He’s busy fixing the big stuff, line editing and copy editing, that some of the small stuff can fall through the cracks. Before I sent it to the printer, I gave it a final proofread and caught over twenty errors that we were able to fix. I thought I had them all, but I’m surprised at the number I missed.

I have paperback copies that I’m itching for people to read. I decided to raffle it off to people who message me through my website (I’ll draw the winners at 9pm on 8/10/2018). So far, the response has been approximately the internal temperature of a tauntaun… Luke-warm (thanks for the joke Angela). I’m not discouraged though! I will do another giveaway on goodreads and Amazon. There a couple of other paid marketings services that I plan to leverage after the book is released, but after that, I think I’ll focus my efforts on book 2, Broken Blade.

Thanks for reading!
